About Crazy Creek After suffering through a long, wet, miserable night camping in the Colorado backcountry with his Outward Bound students, Rob Hart wondered why he didn't have something better than a fallen log or tree stump to sit on. He wanted to relax on something warm, dry, and cushioned, but it wasn't exactly practical to tote a folding lawn chair into the wilderness. Upon returning home, Hart recalled an old wood canoe chair his grandfather used to take camping. From that essential concept, he began tinkering with prototype updates, and the original Crazy Creek Chair was soon created. Hart officially established Crazy Creek in 1987, operating out of the basement of a building at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains in the small town of Red Lodge, Montana. Working with his friend and business partner John Elsberry, Hart continued to steadily grow the product line and company alike over the years. When Hart unexpectedly passed away in 2009, Elsberry and his wife Kim purchased Crazy Creek, in order to keep it in Red Lodge -- where the company continues to operate to this day -- and carry on the tradition of creating quality, backcountry-ready gear to help people comfortably enjoy the outdoors.
